Chimney Fire – What To Do

Chimney Fire.  What to do.

In the event of a chimney fire it may be dangerous to light your fire or stove because the flues may be damaged.

The flues carry the toxic smoke and gasses from your fire and release them to the atmosphere through the chimney stack.

As a result of the intense heat the flues can crack and separate possibly allowing the dangerous gasses to escape into the living area the next time you light the fire.

A chimney fire can also cause the chimney stack to crack causing it to be unstable and/or leak causing internal water damage to your home.

In the aftermath of a chimney fire you should have your chimney cleaned and inspected for damage.
